Remembering The Unforgettable History of Sacrifice By Chaar Sahibzaade — Shaheedi Saptah

Niswarth Kadam pays tribute to the martyrdom of the Four “Sahibzaade” (Sons) who were an important and integral part of the Sikh history and the occasion of their martyrdom is commemorated both with great vigour and very acute sadness, by the Sikh community every year in the month of December, also known to be the month of “Poh”.Chaar Sahibzaade, (‘Chaar’ means four and ‘Sahibzaade’ refers to the sons) is a term endearingly used for the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th guru of the Sikhs.

His four sons died during his lifetime – two in battle, two executed by the Mughal army.

Baba Ajit Singh (1687-1699)was the eldest of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh. He was born at Anandpur Sahib on January 7, 1687 A.D. He was a brave warrior and was already participating in fights against the Mughals.
Baba Jujhar Singh (1691-1705) was the second son of Guru Gobind Singh. He was born in March 1689 and he too got the same training as his elder brother.

Baba Zorawar Singh was the third (1696-1699) son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Along with his grandmother and his younger brother, he was captivated in Sirhind. The Nawab was forcing them to change their faith and adopt Islam. However, the young but fearless sons of Guru kept on refusing the threats and offers.

Baba Fateh Singh(1699-1705) was the fourth son of Guru Gobind Singh and was about six years old when he achieved martyrdom along with his elder brother. Both were tender but fearless.
